Recently, Luis Ginocchio Balcázar, Minister of Agriculture, recognized the Andes as a hub of high quality organic foods, such as quinoa and native potatoes. Huancavelica, a district within the region, has been awarded an organic certification, and has inspired many new initiatives regarding organic food in Peru.
